PRIVATE LABEL AS A SALON BRAND

the original by VARGA HAIR INTERNATIONAL
sustainably bottled in ocean bound plastic (OBP)

Own-brand products enable salon owners to sell hair cosmetics individually, tailored to the salon, in their own design with their own logo in the salon and/or via their own webshop. This is because every own-brand product is available exclusively in the salon that carries it. With VARGA, you can trust that formulations are always state-of-the-art – because the privately managed company stands behind them with its personal name and guarantees quality. VARGA HAIR International has been successful on the market as a partner for hairdressers since 1992. Continuous growth has accompanied the company's history ever since.

To see for themselves, the editorial team of OVERHEAD went on a tour of the Hungarian branch with company owners Karl Varga sen., Karl Varga jun. and plant manager Laszlo Horvath.

EDIT DESK: Great to be here with you in your modern plant, which opened in 2021, and to take this tour together. We’d like to give our readers a bit more insight into Varga’s own brand. How do your processes work, and how can our readers picture it?

KARL VARGA SEN.: Our customers get everything under one roof. From collaborative product development and production to the filling of their own brand, everything is carried out in-house flexibly, quickly and to the highest quality.

I would like to emphasise once again here that we do not use labelling, but rather pure, high-quality screen printing on the products, and this for an order quantity starting from as few as 15 units!

EDIT DESK: And you can use that to satisfy practically all customer requests?

KARL VARJA JUN. Almost all wishes. We offer boundless creative freedom: since 2021, our plant in Hungary has made it possible to print not only one- and two-colour designs, but also four-colour designs on any bottle shape – whether round, oval or square. Even jar lids can now be individually printed. This ensures that VARGA HAIR offers all customers an enormous degree of creative freedom.

A likewise NEW printing machine also allows us to individually print our customers„ cutting and colouring capes with their own logo. Our customers thus receive a perfect “ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGE„ for the optimal presentation of their salon. The exclusive and incomparable OWN BRAND CONCEPT puts an end to the daily price comparison of products with various online shops! The slogan “ADVERTISE FOR YOURSELF AND NOT FOR OTHERS" speaks for itself and will successfully be reflected in our customers' till!

EDIT DESK: That sounds impressive. Who does all of this here?

LASZLO HORVATH: We have a local team here, divided across several departments, that uses state-of-the-art screen printing systems to print logos and labels onto shampoo bottles, sprays and numerous other hair cosmetics products, handles the filling and quality control, and finally prepares them for dispatch.

EDIT DESK: I see you also have a corresponding warehouse on site.

KARL VARGA JUN.: Yes, that is the absolute be-all and end-all. Our customers need their products quickly, flexibly and with short transit times. We constantly keep around 80 to 100 tonnes of liquid care products in stock here and have a huge quantity of a wide variety of empty bottles and closures.

EDIT DESK: And how long does a customer have to wait for their own-brand products?

KARL VARGA JUN.: With customers, a distinction must be made between new customers and existing customers. New customers send us their data (company logo, etc.), and we then produce initial drafts of the product design. The new customer generally receives these drafts within 72 hours. Then, once the design is approved, the new customer receives the initial delivery within four to a maximum of five weeks. For existing customers, whose designs and templates we already have, we dispatch orders within 48 hours.

EDIT DESK: How much does this design work, etc., cost a new customer, and can I also just have 1 piece of a product?

KARL VARGA SEN.: The artwork, exposure and screen costs (the total setup costs) amount to approximately 2,000 euros. These costs are covered entirely by VARGA HAIR INT. – this is our investment in a future, successful partnership with our customers.

By our covering these costs, the private label is also financially viable and attractive for all customers who want to focus on exclusivity once again. As for the products, our customers select at least 15 products with 15 items each from our hair classics – from the Varga Green range, or from our exclusive Argan Oil de Morocco line.

EDIT DESK: Who sets the prices, how are the prices of the products determined? Can every customer set the price that they charge their own customers for the products themselves, is this done in consultation with you, or are there guidelines?

KARL VARGA SEN.: Every own-brand customer has their own product pricing. The calculation is done however each person feels is right for their salon, their local area and their customers. The priceless advantage is that there is simply no comparison between your own salon brand and online shops. We at VARGA HAIR Int. do not issue any recommended retail prices for the products. After all, that is ultimately what creates the exclusivity of the “INCOMPARABLE OWN BRAND”!

EDIT DESK: Back to your products. What is the Varga Green range and what is the composition, the mixture of your products?

KARL VARGA SEN.: We rely on „Varga Green“. This means our products are exclusively made with natural sulphates and natural surfactants and without PEGs (polyethylene glycols), microplastics, silicones, parabens, formaldehydes, mineral oils and colourants.

KARL VARGA JUN.: For us, it is both ecologically and economically imperative to consistently expand Varga Green. Because, at the latest with the coming generation of hairdressers, the question of ecological sustainability will present itself in a completely different way.

For our packaging, we are now completely „NEW“ to using Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP), which is collected from waterways, coastlines and beaches. Ocean Bound Plastic is an important factor in the fight against ocean pollution.

EDIT DESK: Great that you have chosen this sustainable path towards the Varga Green sustainability formula and are living it too. What can I expect the ordering process to look like?

LASZLO HORVATH: We receive the customer's order. Then the bottles are printed in the ordered shapes in our state-of-the-art screen printing machines. After that, they go to the filling stations and finally to quality control and the checking of fill quantities. Subsequently, the fully filled and inspected products go to the dispatch department, where they are packaged and collected for delivery.

EDIT DESK: I am impressed and thank you for the interesting tour and all your information. Final question to conclude: Where can an interested person turn to now?

KARL VARGA SEN.: We look forward to hearing from all customers whose interest in our own brand we have been able to spark, and ask you to contact us by telephone or via our

website to get in touch with us. In addition, we offer all customers the opportunity to sign up as a “Varga Inside” member via our website – for this, you receive a EUR 50.00 voucher for your next order!

At VARGA HAIR nobody buys a pig in a poke, instead EVERYONE RECEIVES A FREE, NO-OBLIGATION SAMPLE PACK IN ADVANCE, to be able to convince yourself of the high quality standard of our entire product range.

Afterwards, our responsible sales rep, or my son Karl Varga Jr. and, upon request, I myself would also be delighted to visit the customers on-site in the salon to personally discuss the optimal implementation of the new, exclusive private label.

EDIT DESK: Thank you for the tour and the interview.
